Wensum Anglers Conservation Association
Please note that due to overwhelming membership enquiries, we have closed our waiting lists
Hi everyone.

Thought it was about time I had a little roundup of where we are at from my perspective:

In no particular order.....

Fishery Website and (closed) Facebook page up and running, thanks to Chris! Understand we will be inviting fishery members to join the Facebook page soon. This I think could develop into a very good tool for organising ad hoc events, works etc as well as purely for information.

Consents nearly complete, I have a final form to fill in which I will do today and send off, (done that now!) that should complete the rigmarole needed to add some more fry refuges etc. Charles told me yesterday that he is hoping to get Gerry the Digger on the farm in June, this will be an ideal opportunity to get our work done. This is now in progress as I write, on June 3rd. Completion by June 5th we hope.

Rolling maintenance NE agreement, we are talking to Nik Bertholdt about this and hope to have it in place soon.

Gravel jetting (sidestream) done by EA and myself, Colin and Martin, several weeks ago. Chub spawned on the jetted area and just downstream a few days later - probably ongoing with current temps. At the time of jetting Steve Lane commented on the erosion of the sidestream banks, this has been ongoing for years. (An unprecedented amount of similar erosion has occurred in recent times, with numerous unseasonal floods) I have asked Steve for his thoughts on whether we can do anything about the area in question, as the sidestream is looked on as a spawning/juvenile fish habitat area, and bare muddy banks full of Crayfish holes are NOT conducive!

Roach. We are currently in the throes of discussions with Trevor Harrop at Avon Roach Project, Wensum Working Group are showing an interest in doing something on the Wensum, as is John Bailey. Watch this space!

Bailiffs. Fishery bailiffs at the moment consist of Russell Francis, Colin Howlett and Paul Stearman.

Wensum Working Group.
Kelvin Allen is moving WWG under the group umbrella of BASG-CIC, to facilitate this he has asked for a couple of people to represent WWG at BASG meetings.Colin put his hand up for this, tentatively I have done the same. No promises but I will do my best to attend when needed. BASG launch 20 May, the Forum, Norwich.

Sayers Meadow work party.
Booked in for May 20. Done and dusted!
Note re strimming, we have a number of people now on the fishery who are offering to help with this. I am asking to see their credentials before proceeding, however this could be very useful in dealing with paths which overgrow, also keeping some areas accessible within stock fencing.

AGM planned for September at the moment, at which we will be able to formalise fishery management team as at the moment we are really the caretaker team!

Kind regards, Tim.

Kind regards,
Tim Ellis.
